The evangelist Henry Grattan Guinness visited Brightwell in the 19th Century. He was a nephew of Arthur Guinness, founder of the brewing empire. He was saved through the testimony of his brother at the age of 18 and soon began to preach the need for conversion and commitment to Christ. Henry became well known as a revivalist preacher and is reported to have preached to crowds of up to 10,000 people.
